Reflections on peace - p5

Christ's overcome the world - John 16:33.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

Christ's overcome the world

The just before His death, after telling His disciples many things, including that we would soon leave them Christ acknowledges his followers will suffer in this world. But He also writes that in Him they may have peace. He wants to encourage them. They can have a peace that isn't overcome by the troubles they face in this world because Christ has overcome the world.

Father God as your humble sons and daughters we marvel at your gift of peace. Your promise never to leave us, to work all things for our good and to one day bring us into perfect peace in your new creation.

We praise you that our struggles aren't unseen by you. You know your people will suffer in this world. And you so often use the trouble we face to bring us closer to you. But it is still hard to struggle, to face trouble from the world. So Lord thank you for this encouragement that you have 'overcome the world'.

We know we cannot understand all of your ways, but thank you for what you have revealed to us. We can be confident that this world is completely in your control. We can know that all that happens to us and around us is part of your plan. All creation submits to you.

And more than than you have defeated death. You have made a way for us to have eternal life with you in a perfect new creation.

Though this world may try and draw us away from you, it has no real power. Though satan may seek to tempt us from your goodness. You can overcome Him. Through your power in us we can reject the the evil the world and the devil and cling firmly to the peace that can be found in your arms.

Father God when we face trouble from this world, help us to take heart, for you have 'overcome the world'.
