Reflections on peace - p28

'And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:19

We don't need to worry that

our lack of energy may

prevent us from glorifying God.

God will give us the energy we need

to glorify Him in the way He wants.

Often I feel too tired to serve God the way I would like to. Sometimes those feelings lead me to worry that I am not glorifying God enough. I can be tempted to start thinking that I am letting God down and feel guilty that I am not more able to serve God. It can be especially easy to worry when other people seem to be able to serve more than I can.

But ultimately, it is God who provides our strength. God is in control of my energy levels. He promises to give us what we need. Now very often what we need and what we feel we need are very different. So God may not give us the energy to serve Him in all the ways we feel like we should. But we can be confident He will give us the energy to serve Him in the ways He wants us to. So we can try to glorify God with all the energy that He has graciously given us. Without needing to worry when we don't have the energy to glorify God in more ways.

Father God, please give us the strength to glorify You with our whole lives. Help us to trust You in our weakness. Help us not to worry that our feeble efforts aren't enough. We are saved and made holy by Your grace alone. God, You have promised to give us all that we need. Help us to trust You to give us the energy to glorify You the way You want us to. And so be at peace with our weariness, knowing You will one day fully renew our strength in the new creation to come.
