Pursuing a life for God's glory, leaning not on our own understanding.

Joshua and Luci in Cambridge

Verse of the Week

'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding'

Proverbs 3:5

I was encouraged last week by the idea that even if we don't fully understand what is going on, we can trust God with everything and have peace, knowing he is powerfully working everything for our good.

Encouragements

Last week we had the amazing privilege of both being able to attend a training day in Cambridge on Mission. Below are some ideas suggested that we found really interesting

The purpose of mission - God’s glory

The foundation of mission - God’s redemption

The centre of mission - God’s kingdom

The hope of mission - God’s new creation

The power of mission - The holy spirit

We were also really encouraged by our sermon on Sunday. We we're looking at how, in 1 Corinthians 9, Paul reminds us that helping people make it to the new creation is worth giving up everything in this life.

Prayer Requests

We would really love prayer that:

  • God would help us to trust his promises and not lose our peace when we don't understand his plan for our lives.

  • God would help us to be kind and gentle as we seek to encourage one another to glorify God with all of our lives.

  • God would use us to love and build up our church family as we seek to serve and encourage them with God's word.

Your love and support to both of us over the last few months has been so wonderful. We pray that God will bless you and keep you.

Praise the Lord for he is most worthy of praise!

Love and prayers,

Joshua & Luci :)

Mission

Mission is more about God and who He is and what he does

Mission (Sending and being sent) is both a divine and human activity

It can be helpful to think of Mission not as one of the church’s focuses but as the reason the church exists

The purpose of mission - God’s glory

The foundation of mission - God’s redemption

The centre of mission - God’s kingdom

The hope of mission - God’s new creation

The power of mission - The holy spirit

Jesus shows how the message of the bible not only includes Christ death and resurrection but also the gospel going out to the nations - The idea of mission is weaved throughout the whole bible.

Church is responsible for sending and supporting mission partners

Biblical model seems to be having deep relationships with a few mission partners rather than shallow relationships with many.

Mission in the 21st Century

  • Around 33% of the world call themselves Christian

  • There are predicted to be more muslims than christians by 2100

  • Between 1900-2010 the % of practicing christians has risen from 3-12%

  • Over half the world’s christians are estimated to be African

  • Over 80% of the world don’t know a single christian

  • There are currently more people who don’t know who Christ is than ever before

(As far as I know the facts above are correct, however it is hard to measure these things so I wouldn't hold to tightly to them)

We found it really encouraging to think about being a part of God's big mission and challenging to hear that there are so many people who are yet to hear about Christ.

Thanks so much for reading,

I hope it has helped point you to Christ.

God Bless xx
